10th Series – Water Double with a Flyer

20 Dog Teams were called back to run this Series

After the this test was set up and ready to go this afternoon, Test Dogs began the Series at 2:31 pm, beginning with "Stinker," then next up was "Pup Pup." After a slight modification to the test was made by the Judges, we had a 3rd test dog, "Chipper," run as well. This gave the dog teams a nice preview of this beautiful 10th Series test!

The first running dog kicked off the 10th Series test at 3:17 pm with #51 Beaver Creek Shadows Hunter, “Jaeger,” BLM, handled by Bill Bailey.

The weather this afternoon was 68 degrees, and sunny, as the skies had cleared up from this morning but there was still a decent breeze coming in at 17 mph SW.

This was a smooth Series with not much to report on here!
This is how things turned out for the 10th Series…
No-Bird / Re-Run (1): 18
Handles (0):
Double Handles (0):
Pick-Ups (0):
Scratches (0):

Our last running dog for this series was dog #50 Heartbeat’s Heaven Scent Tommy Girl, “Tommy,” BLF, with handler Julie Kobach. The test was completed this afternoon at 5:30 pm.

There were 20 dogs sent from the line in this series, taking exactly 1 hour and 13 minutes, which averages out to be just over 6.5 minutes per dog running time.

The 10th Series is officially completed and in the books!

This also concludes the 2023 National Retriever Derby Championship!

Next we will find out who the Finalists are and who the Winner is!

Test Description - 10th Series

We've made it to the 10th series of the National Derby Championship! Soon we will know the next NDC!

We have returned to Swede's field. The rain has cleared, it is sunny and 68 degrees. It is still quite breezy with a 17 mph SW wind.

The 10th Series test is a Water Double with a Flyer

The mat faces north, overlooking several pieces of water.

Bird #1 is a dead Hen Mallard. The gunners sit on a dike, throwing their bird from Left to Right at 151 yds. We will call this bird L for Left.

Bird #2 is a Drake Mallard Flyer. It is shot from Right to Left, 149 yds from the line. The line to this bird has the dog clip a small piece of water, angle over the first point and (depending on the flyer length) slide right past the second point. We’ll call this bird F for Flyer.

This test takes approximately 7 minutes per dog.
