5th Series

Good morning from the 2023 National Derby Championship! We are set up in the Terrace Field of Wood Dale Farm today for the 5th Series. It is 55 degrees, with clear skies and it is expected to reach 80 degrees today.

Test 5 is a Land Double.

The mat faces north, at the base of a terraced field. There is an 8 mph wind off the handler’ right shoulder.

Bird #1 is a dead Rooster Pheasant. The gunners sit 175 yards from the mat and throw their bird from Right to Left where it lands just deep of a cluster of cedar trees. We will refer to this bird as L for Left.

Bird #2 is a Hen Pheasant flyer.  It is a big, flat throw and lands on the side of a terrace hill. The gunners sit at 216 yards and shot their bird from Left to Right. The line to this bird requires the dog to angle across several hills, shouldering the wind. We will refer to this bird as F for Flyer.

This test is taking the dogs about 3 minutes to complete.
