Test 7 is a Water Double with Hen and Drake Mallards.
We’re back in the Dam Field where it’s clear skies and 60 degrees. The mat faces north, atop a terraced hill looking down into the water. There is a 10-mph wind blowing over the handler’s right shoulder.
Bird #1 is a dead Hen Mallard, thrown from Right to Left and landing 260 yards from the mat. The gunners sit approximately 8 yards back from the shore, and throw their bird into the near corner of the pond. The line to this bird takes the dog down a terraced hill into the water, past the gunners of Bird #2, over a skinny point, down the next shoreline past 2 dead trees. We will use these landmarks to describe the dog’s work. We will refer to this bird as L for Long Bird.
Bird #2 is a dead Drake Mallard, thrown from Right to Left landing 137 yards from the mat. The gunners sit on top of a tall land bridge and throw their bird to the corner of the pond, into thick cover and lily pads. We will refer to this bird as S for the Short Bird.
This test is taking approximately 10 minutes per dog.
