Tommy and Julie came to the line at 5:23 pm
F – Past the 1st point, past the 2nd point and out under the arc, a couple of deep loops and she had her bird!
L – Took a line right of the trees and right of the cedar, dug in hard to angle across the pond back to the left, out just right of the guns, a couple of tight loops behind the guns and then straight down the dyke to the bird!
Tommy and Julie came to the line at 12:10 pm
LB – Left of the rock straight out across the road, a wide right of the guns and came in behind back across the road to the bird.
RB – Out to the tree line right and deep of the guns, circled back left to get her bird.
Tommy and Julie came to the line at 7:59 am
Down the hill wide left, crossed the road, angled right in front of the guns and under the arc, a loop behind the guns and she got it!

S – Through the slot, turned before the mound and she got it!
LR – Crossed behind the guns, took a loop deep, came back on the left side of the road and got her bird.
Tommy and Julie came to the line at 9:57 am
S – Down the levee into the pond, through the lily pads to get her bird.
L – Down the levee into the pond, swam past the point and exited the pond between the dead trees and the gunners, ran right of the guns and hunted the hillside both deep and left, worked her way to the corner and her bird.
Tommy and Julie came to the line at 3:12 pm
F – Down the draw, up the hill, circled around on top of the hill in front of the guns and she got it.
LB – In to the pond, over the broad point, over the land bridge and into the 2nd pond, up the hill and very deep, back down to the bird.
Tommy and Julie came to the line at 10:11 am
F – Came in under the arc, close to the gunners – turned right towards the bird and started her hunt. Stayed right in the area until she found it!
L – Straight to the trees and then deep for a turn right, then quickly back to the trees and the bird.
Tommy and Julie came to the line at 11:44 am
F – Into the pond and out under the arc, up the hill and she found the bird.
L – Into the water, got out under the arc, went deep for several loops on the right side of the guns, back to the left and worked her way down to the bird.

What made you decide to compete in Field Trials?
My husband did, and he passed away (at field trial), so I had his two dogs, Peanut & Peaches. Under the love & guidance of his two wonderful friends and dog pros, Bruce & Wayne Curtis, they helped me to learn this sport and manage my way through a tragic time of my life. Since then, both girls are FC & AFC titled and qualified for several National Championships. My Derby dog, Tommy Girl, out of my Heartbeat’s Georgia Peanut x Tom Strickland’s FC-AFC Beaver Runs Zig Zag Zeke. Tommy’s name commemorates both my Tommy & Zeke’s Tommy.
Who are your training partners at home?
Tommy Girl was blessed to have her young dog training with Bruce Curtis at Curtis Kennels. When she finished Bruce’s program, she moved to John Lynch and Fox Hollow Retrievers. The entire Curtis Kennel/Fox Hollow team have been my partners. In addition, the Strickland/Windham family of Beaver Run, Leesburg, GA have been instrumental in my learnings and became my new Southern family. Besides the Curtis’s, they have given me immeasurable love and support through my journey forward in life and dogs.
What is the origin of your dog’s name?
Heartbeat’s Heaven Scent Tommy Girl is out of my FC-AFC Heartbeat’s Georgia Peanut and sired by Tom Strickland’s FC-AFC Beaver Runs Zig Zag Zeke. Her name commercial both of their/our Tommys.

HaHa—Tommy Girl is crazy & small like my Nut but a mini good-looking version of her daddy, Zeke.
You and your dog have made it through nine series of the National Derby Championship. You are about to come to the line for the 10th series with a chance to win the 2023 National Derby Champion. What song and artist would you want to hear playing as the two of you come to the line?

Tommy and Julie came to the line at 8:45 am
Down the hill and into the pond, made a nice angle across the water – up and under the arc, hunted in front of the guns to the trees and then over to the cover and she got her bird.
