Dog Full Name:J.C.'s God of Mischieu

When did you begin competing in Field Trials?

We started competing in 2009 or 2010

What made you decide to compete in Field Trials?

We originally started competing in Hunt test and still do. The field trial competition is just a continuance of our love for dogsa.and the sport.

Who are your training partners at home?

We have trained with numerous groups and have had numerous pro trainers. All of them have been exceptional trainers. We tend to gravitate to Best Retrievers. We train with them even when we do not have a dog that is specifically in training with them.

What is the origin of your dog’s name?

We were having a bit of a hard time naming Loki when Carol said that is the most mischievous dog we have ever had. The next day we watched one of the Marvel series movies with Loki in it. We immediately named him J.C.'s God of Mischief.

Tell us an interesting story or fact about your dog.

I was having a hard time placing Loki with a young dog trainer that had room. I had a friend mention Colby Williams. Colby trained Ace for us and did a phenomenal job. She is one of the best dogs we have had! I called Colby who was already up north. We hired a driver to take him to Valhalla in Montana. Loki spent a year with Colby. Colby did an outstanding job with Loki and his basics. Colby and I had numerous discussions about Loki making a field trial dog. Because I was looking for an open dog. When I purchased Loki Rody Best picked him up from Georgia. I was discussing the sell of Loki with Rody. Rody said let me look at him for a week and see what I think. After a week Rody called and said hey I am starting a field trial.program and I have a new trainer Michael Cotton. Michael doesn't have many dogs and he can spend some extra time and effort on Loki. What do you think? I said Im not sure. We decided to give it a month or so. Now we are competing in the National Derby. I can't thank Colby Willams and Michael Cotton from Best Retrievers enough!

You and your dog have made it through nine series of the National Derby Championship. You are about to come to the line for the 10th series with a chance to win the 2023 National Derby Champion. What song and artist would you want to hear playing as the two of you come to the line?

I tend not to count success before it happens. If we make it to that point I guess Michael and I will have a celebratory drink and come up with a fitting song!

Loki and Michael came to the line at 8:20 am

Down the hill and straight into the pond, angled out, up the hill and hunted short for a couple of turns, the continued straight up the hill to the cover and his bird!
